Okinawa, Japan is an interesting little island. Because of the heavy presence of the U.S. military there, it’s more Westernized than other places in Japan, and parts of the island feel more like an Asian neighborhood in the States than the other way around. I’ve never spent a lot of time around a military base before, and it was definitely an experience! Much of our time was spent lounging around my cousin’s apartment, having coffee at cute little cafes, touring Kadena Air Force Base and eating whatever struck our fancy (Indian food! Mexican food! Hamburgers! It was a nice break from Korean food). But we did manage to sneak in some exciting and touristy things. We visited a pineapple farm, toured some caves, went to the beach, ate some deadly fish, zip lined in the jungle and more. But those are stories for another day, so for now, I’ll leave you with some snapshots that show the essence of Okinawa!
